What Nobody Tells You When Wedding Planning

Things nobody seems to talk about when planning their wedding but really should…

As your wedding planning friend, and having supported many beautiful brides in their planning journey, with not just the practicalities of planning but also the emotional load that inevitably comes with planning what is likely one of the most important days of your life, I wanted to share my insight into what nobody ever talks about when planning, but I feel really SHOULD be shared…

My grandma and mum have always said, “A problem shared is a problem halved.” Now that I am a bride and a planner, I have a new perspective on planning, too, which I really hope can help some couples in their journey…

So, here it is, the things nobody talks about when wedding planning but really should….

  1. Feeling scared, doubtful, or worried

No one talks about the fear that creeps in when you’re planning your wedding. It’s perfectly normal to feel anxious or unsure at times. There will be moments when you question your decisions, wonder if everything will come together, or worry about what could go wrong. And while some brides may look like they have it all together, I want you to know that you’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed. In fact, these feelings are part of the process—and they’ll pass as you move closer to your big day!

My biggest tip on this is to try to refocus the fear into excitement and be sure to have fun things planned with your partner and friends that may involve wedding but also isn’t always wedding-related!

  1. The pressure of perfection

As much as we may not always think this, but we do live in a world full of Instagram-worthy weddings (and lives!!), and Pinterest-perfect people. But let me tell you something: perfection is a myth. The pressure to create a flawless event can feel suffocating, and the constant comparison to what you see online only adds fuel to the fire. Your wedding doesn’t need to tick every box or live up to an idealised version of what a wedding “should” look like.

Focus on what matters most to you and your partner—this is your day, and it will be perfect in its own unique way. That is truly ALL that matters.

  1. Making mistakes

I’m going to let you in on a little secret: mistakes are part of the journey. No wedding, bride, or supplier is immune to a tiny hiccup along the way. Whether it’s a minute miscommunication or realising you forgot to order something, things will go wrong – and that’s okay. What’s important is how you handle it. Take a deep breath, solve the problem with a smile, and move forward. Sometimes, the best stories come from the unexpected moments that make your day uniquely yours.

There is ALWAYS a solution. I promise you that.

  1. THE COST

The cost of a wedding is no secret, but the reality often hits harder than expected. Between your venue, catering, dress, entertainment, transport and everything in between the expenses add up rapidly. However, don’t let the financial burden overwhelm you. Wedding planning is about finding a balance between your dreams and your budget. Be honest with yourself, prioritise what matters most to you, and explore creative ways to make your vision a reality without breaking the bank.

You can have a beautiful, meaningful celebration without compromising your financial future.

  1. The constant questions & opinions

Everyone (trust me) whether it’s family, friends, or even strangers – will have something to say about your wedding. From unsolicited advice on your dress choice to “helpful” suggestions about your style of wedding, it can be overwhelming to navigate everyone’s opinions. The key is to listen to those you trust and who truly have your best interests at heart, but also to learn how to gently tune out the noise. This is YOUR celebration, and while it’s wonderful to have support, the final decisions should be yours and your partner’s alone.

Trust your gut and what feels right to YOU.

  1. The  work / the time / the admin

Wedding planning is a lot of work. It’s not just about making decisions; it’s about managing deadlines, making payments, handling logistics, and ensuring everyone is on the same page. Between meetings with suppliers, coordinating with your bridal party, and keeping track of RSVPs, the admin side of planning can become a full-time job. Don’t be afraid to ask for help—whether it’s delegating tasks to your wedding party or hiring a professional planner to ease the load. Remember, this isn’t a journey you have to go on alone.

Wedding planning is an emotional rollercoaster, but it’s also one of the most beautiful and rewarding experiences of your life. By acknowledging these often unspoken realities, you can approach your wedding journey with a sense of empowerment and peace.

Remember, the true beauty of your wedding lies in the love you and your partner share, and the celebration that reflects who you are as a couple.

Embrace the mess, the imperfections, and the joy, and above all, enjoy the process – because, at the end of the day, it’s about making memories that will last a lifetime.
